October 2003

Quantum dots have been called artificial atoms, in fact, and the ability to control the energy states of the electrons by applying a voltage has led to the exotic idea of a material whose chemical nature could be modified at will, making it emulate different elements, such as lead one minute then gold the next-effectively programmable matter.

The current fabrication methods for quantum dots and their applications are described in this white paper.
