Architect, de architectengroep
Kees Rijnboutt (1939) studied from 1956 until 1964 at the Technical
University in Delft. He was the assistant of prof. ir. J.H. van
den Broek and he graduated cum laude with prof. ir. C. van Eesteren
and prof. ir. H. Brouwer. He worked several years for the Housing
Department of the Municipality of Amsterdam (1964-1975). In 1975
he joined 'de architecten-groep VDL'. In 1989 he was nominated
as "Rijksbouwmeester" (State architect) at the Ministry of Housing,
Planning and the Environment. In 2001 he received the "BNA Kubus-award"
for architectural and urbanistic work.
From 1986 until 1990 he was professor at the Technical University
in Delft; faculty for architecture; he was Rijksbouwmeester until
1995 and in the period of 1995-1998 Stadsstedenbouwer (city urbanist)
of the municipality of The Hague. Through the years he held a
number of executive positions both in and outside his discipline.
In 1984 he founded the "Stichting Nederland Nu Als Ontwerp (NNAO)
together with prof. ir. Dirk Frieling. He was member of several
national and international juries and he lectured in several universities
in Europe and the United States of America.
As Rijksbouwmeester he organised workshops for 'de Resident',
'Grotiusplaats' both in The Hague and for 'de Kop van Zuid' in
Rotterdam. From 1992 he supervises and coordinates the urban development
and architectural work for the new center of Amstelveen. The new
city center of Amstelveen is expected to be completed in 2004.
From 1985 until 1995 he was part-time committed to 'de architectengroep
rijnboutt ruijssenaars hendriks van gameren mastenbroek bv', however
in September 1995 he joined 'de architectengroep' full-time again.
At this moment he is supervisor of the Zuidelijke IJ-oevers and
chairman of the Quality-team and the Supervision-team of IJburg.
On the 23rd of August 2001 a series of seven workshops for the
Oosterdokseiland started. Representatives of MAB, the municipality
of Amsterdam and fifteen architects and urban designers from abroad
and the Netherlands participated in this workshop.
At this moment Kees Rijnboutt realizes several buildings in the
Netherlands. Among others housing projects in Rotterdam, The Hague,
Hoorn and Enkhuizen, a new tax office for the municipality of
Amsterdam (project development by ING), department stores for
V&D in Dordrecht and "De Bijenkorf" in Enschede and Maastricht.
In the near future the execution of the buildings on the Lloydpier
(a winning design together with Bart van der Vossen) in Rotterdam
will start. For the city of Sittard-Geleen he recently designed
the new city-center of Geleen.
